  6. In order to do our part during this outbreak, traditional yard sales and other events that results in public gatherings are not allowed (per Gov. Wolf's order). However, we are allowing online based events, video chat social events, etc. Be creative and lets keep the world going!
  7. As many of you already know, our website was launched early to help keep information about the COVID-19 outbreak available and focused on our community. However, we are now pushing to launch the features we aimed to have available originally. Today we are expanding our community forums to encompass more topics that the everyday user will find useful. First we are starting off by adding a new "Community Questions" forum where members of our community to ask questions regarding all sorts of matters in the local area. This area is great to get information about local events, politics, social office locations, etc. It is also open for all users to use as they need. Secondly we added an area to Share Social Media groups and help promote them to other members of the community. From buy/sell/trade groups to local events, this forum can be used to share all sorts of local groups that exist on social media, like Facebook. Third is an entire new section to our forum for community posting. This new section includes a place to add Public Service Announcements with our fellow community members, a Lost and Found section, and a Yard Sale section for sharing personal events! We hope to continue to improve our community to benefit those around us!

  9. We have added the Pennsylvania COVID-19 outbreak map to our health and wellness section of our website. This map, along with some basic information about the virus, will be under our new virus home page as we aim to make our main home page more focused on community information and positive news over of just another virus center. This new section of our website will only be a small, useful information page as there are numerous outlets already providing information about this outbreak including the state of Pennsylvania’s website and the CDC's website. We do not want to make our website just another information portal for this virus and potentially provide old or inaccurate information and therefore will focus on our community forum where local members of the community can interact with each other when it comes to this outbreak. Thank you again for your time and supporting us during these troubled times.
  10. Columbia County Online is proud to announce the release of our health section of our website. This section is currently focused on the current Corona virus outbreak, but more generalized health related topics and pages will be added soon. This section of our website will be where we post all the latest health related news, community health events, and generalized public health related information. We hope that this section of our website will currently aid those in need of information about the current outbreak today and tomorrow will help all our community members create a healthier and more wellness focused life. Thank you for supporting us as we attempt to add more features each day. Please let us know any issues or errors you are encountering using our website so we can fix these as soon as possible.

Reported illnesses have ranged from people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying. The CDC has put together a "tool" to self check yourself in the event of getting sick, although it is mostly a word document. You can find the article here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/testing.html

  15. Columbia County Online is launching our free community Blog feature! Users can create and interact with Blogs right on our website for free! We understand this time of quarantine can be worrisome and leaving many people wondering what to do while sitting at home, but now we are here to offer a way community members can share with others! Create a blog for your cooking, adventures, pets, and basically anything you can think of! Blogs do not need to be focused on our local community e.g. a genetic cooking blog is perfectly fine, but Blogs do need to be friendly for all ages for our website (Well, 13 years of age and older). This is also a great way to get your business out there by starting a blog to share updates and sales! We thank each and everyone of you who are supporting us during these growing pains. Please report any problems via our ticket system. Start your first blog by visiting our blog page here! https://columbiacountyonline.com/index.php?/blogs/
  16. We have added the ability for new users to register and login via Facebook! We are planning on adding Twitter Logins in the near future. If you already have an account, you can link your Facebook to your current account by clicking your user name in the upper right corner on the site and selecting "Account Settings". Once you get to your account settings, then you can link your Facebook by clicking on "Facebook on the right side menu and then "Configure". Afterwards it is a simple process to link your account.
  17. Columbia County Online is offering free online advertising on our website to ALL local businesses (besides adult and political ads) until at least July 1st 2020. We can not offer much during this economic shutdown, but our staff agreed that this was a good start. No, there is no extensive signup or commitments, just make a free forum account and reply to the topic linked below to get your advertisement listed in our system. That is literally all the steps. No negative advertisements will be allowed as this is designed to encourage growth in our community, not start debates and argue with each other.
  18. Our community is far from finished, but our local community and businesses are in need of support! We have decided to launch our website early and missing numerous features to help those around us. Please bear with us as development continues in the background on a daily basis. Columbia County Online is run by a local business (Uncrowned Empire) to provide an always free and community based website of the local community. We do not accept donations, please send those to a local charity or person in need. A list of charities will be added soon. So much more is coming, but for now we wish to do what we can. If you find a way we can help others, let us know! What are we doing this for? Well that is simple, we aim to help our local community with information and community based support. We admit, that we are very limited in what we can provide to those in need, but we need to do our part none the less. Is this a COVID-19 based website? No, Columbia County Online is not here for medical advise or to directly fight the virus, but we have the resources to indirectly help those around us. Be aware, that we are community driven and not lead by a team of doctors when questions are asked. What about after the outbreak is over? Hopefully this outbreak will be over quickly and we can go back to focusing on our main journey of providing a support platform for Columbia County.

  20. The CDC has a list of disinfectants that will kill the new COVID-19 virus. Most household disinfectants are on this list and NOT being on the list does not necessarily mean it does not work (as they haven't tested everything). When using disinfectants is is important to remember the following: Cleaning and disinfecting are two different activities. You MUST read the directions to properly use disinfectants. Disinfectants need to be on the surface of X amount of time to kill viruses. (Again read directions) Be careful for the need for gloves, eye protection, etc. as disinfectants are often harmful to people too. Did we mention to read ALL the directions first? Disinfectants must be applied correctly, a spray bottle doesn't always mean to spray directly onto the surface. CDC List: https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-registration/list-n-disinfectants-use-against-sars-cov-2
  21. While it is easy to remember that the elderly needs extra care during these times, our staff team would like to remind everyone to remember that there are numerous groups of individuals and families in need and at high risk right now. Obviously, the elderly need to be protected from this outbreak as it has proven to be extra deadly for those individuals if infected. You should not be visiting your elderly family members now, but do not forget about them. Many of us are stuck at home and that means there is no excuse to give your elderly relatives a phone call to check in on them. Chronically ill family and friends are in the same risk factor as the elderly and again you should not be visiting these people, but again do not forget they exist. A friendly phone call, inviting them to online gaming matches, and simply keeping them included can make a huge difference in their lives and keep them positive to fight off their normal illnesses on top of the new outbreak. We all probably know someone with depression, anxiety, or other disorders that are hard for that individual to coupe with and being locked in a house worrying about global pandemic is not the time to leave them alone. Calling them on the phone to talk a bit and just offering an ear to listen to them is huge in their lives and it does not take away from your own life. Lastly, we understand that drug addicts are a touchy issue, but the truth is we often know someone affected by drugs and right now that person is sitting at home unable to talk to anyone or get help. Do not hesitate to call these friends and family to check in on them, it does make a difference. All in all, there are more people at risk then just on this list, but we cannot name them all. At the end of the day, it is not the government or large corporations that preform a miracle, it is the action of millions that will get us through this outbreak.
  22. All businesses based in our local area (Columbia County) can place their Banner Ad(s), Website Address, and Physical Address here for free banner advertising on our website. The only limit is no more then three banners per size to prevent "flooding" the unit size. Accepted Ad Sizes: 300px x 250px 160px x 600px 200px x 200px How do I submit an ad? Just create an account and reply to this topic with the details of your business (Name and Address) and attach the images to the post. What advertisement types are allowed? At this point we are only accepting image based ads. (No Flash or Videos) When is advertising free until? The current "official" cut off is July 1st 2020. However, we may extend this if the economic situation does not improve by then. What businesses can advertise? It is currently at the judgement of our staff team, but any business physically located in Columbia County should be eligible. We do not allow adult/pornographic business as they violate our TOS and political advertisements will not be allowed for free. Do I need to submit payment info? Negative, this is a free program and we are not using it force future customers. No payment information is needed (in fact we do not even have that system setup yet.) Do I need to be the business owner? We are currently not verifying if the submitting user is the owner of the business or allowed to advertise for that company. However, we are not allowing negative advertisements and we may deny advertisements that seem questionable or harmful to the business. If you are a business owner and found an unauthorized ad on our site, please contact us directly to get the issue sorted out. I don't have a website, can I submit an ad? Soon, we are working on a solution for this.
